Smoked Teriaki Tofu Wrap at Grassroots

My first stop for food in California was the Grassroots Natural Market in Pasadena.

The market part was rather small, with some thoughtful food choices in the tiny grocery section. The supplement section seemed huge in comparison, but I didn’t spend too much time there.

The deli counter, though not even fully vegetarian, had many interesting vegan choices. I ordered a Teriaki wrap but was told that they were fresh out of the teriaki tofu. Instead, the man behind the counter suggested their smoked tofu and said he could add teriaki sauce. I was not only happy that he was able to make a suggestion, but impressed that they seemed to have many different interesting varieties of tofu on hand.

The wrap was really very tasty. The brown rice they used was soft and nutty, the vegetables seemed really fresh, the avocado was perfectly ripe, and the tofu was wonderful. I’d get this for lunch again in a heart beat.

Too bad I don’t live in Pasadena.
