All Sorts of Good Stuff!

November 7th, 2008 Stumble it!

Carnival Squash and Sprouts

Wow. There are 542 people in the running so far for free apple butter. I was only going to give away three jars (so that I could have some, and I could give some to my friends), but given the interest I’m going to give out my whole stockpile of jars so that as many people as possible can have a chance to win. So I’m upping the number of winners to six! I can’t wait to find out who will get them! There is still time to comment on that entry and win.

Speaking of free stuff!

Do you have an iPhone or iPod Touch? I don’t, but if you do, you’re in luck. A really neat company called mediumbold has developed an iPhone application for VYY recipes! Now you can get all my recipes right on your phone, with photos, a powerful search function, and the ability to mark your favorite recipes to keep them handy. The application comes with the 70 most recent recipes I’ve posted, and will be updated shortly to contain every single recipe on the site. Check it out!

And hey, do you like Etsy.com? I do!

I’ve written an article for Etsy! I’m their “featured buyer” for the Etsy Handmade Blog, so go check out some fun, unique, handmade goodies that I’ve found over on Etsy, and get a head start on your holiday shopping. Here’s one of the featured items:

So yeah! Neat, huh? I’ll be back early next week with a brand new recipe for you all, and the winners of the apple butter contest. Enjoy your weekend, and happy cooking!

I didn’t enter the drawing for the free apple butter because I just decided to make my own instead. Thanks for posting that recipe – my batch (7 jars) turned out absolutely delicious.

I love it because it works offline totally and has beautiful pictures… actually I only know your blog because of the iPhone app. And luckily I was curious enough to know more about this website… or else, I wouldn’t be able to see your cute Knit Cupcakes! :D

I also love apple butter but I am going to make my own.

Actually want to make apple-pumpkin butter but I do not think they recommend canning this….

Neato application. Dont have an iPhone (yet) and have the iPod classic.

    Hey hey –

Just FYI, as far as reconstituting dried beans, try the oven. The best (ie softest/edible) dried beans I’ve ever had.

Just throw them in a pyrex, fill with h2o (bout an inch above the beans) and slooooooow cook at like 250 or 300 for 3 to 4 hours.

Soak em for a day before hand, reduce the oven time a bit.

(not really a post to the iphone app, which I’m sure rocks :)

Love the Iphone app. I’ve been searching for a good cooking app since the apps came out and finally yours came along. I’ll be making lots of your recipes now that I can figure out what to make for dinner on the way home from work.
I’m also an Etsy lover too. Everything I’ve ordered has been great! Thanks!

I used to have a muffin pan exactly like the one you featured in your cranberry sauce recipe but lost it sometime during college. Does anyone know where to get a comparable one? The one I had was ancient and I cannot seem to find a suitable replacement.

Vegan Yum Yummyness in my IPHONE! OMG you rock! Thanks!

  • 17. Bianca- Vegan Crunk  |  November 10th, 2008 at 1:33 pm

Aw shucks! Don’t feel like you gotta give away all your apple butter. Keep a little for yourself!!!

And that iPhone app is sweet! I don’t have an iPhone either, but now I want one…just for that!

  • 18. Harald Walker  |  November 10th, 2008 at 1:51 pm

Great job Stewart! The application really looks good.

Who knew brussel sprouts photograph so beautifully? You’re an incredibly talented photographer, and I love reading your blog (and tweaking your recipes to fit what I have in the cupboards, as I’m not a vegan myself). I made *fresh* brussel sprouts last week, steamed and then salted, peppered, and buttered (though I’m sure they would have been wonderful without, or with butter substitute), and it was so delicious it made me wonder why my parents would never serve them (some childhood trauma, I presume). Thank you for sharing your recipes and photographs with the wide internet world, they are greatly appreciated.

Loved your picks at Etsy, and the cranberry sauce looks nice too! And so does the iPhone application. Well done!

  • 22. Krista  |  November 11th, 2008 at 7:11 pm

Love love love the app – now I will have all of your recipes with me at the grocery store. Hooray!

  • 23. Charles  |  November 11th, 2008 at 9:18 pm

Will new recipes automatically show up in the app? How will we know which ones are the latest?

They will! They’ll have a blue dot next to them to show they’re new.

  • 24. Zaidat  |  November 11th, 2008 at 11:27 pm

Sweet! Great article! And I loved your picks over there!

My boyfriend just got an iphone (yesterday) and was so excited to show me “this vegan application thingy”, and I hadn’t even had a chance to tell him about it! Congrats, that such a neat way to broaden your readership.

  • 26. Kristina  |  November 12th, 2008 at 5:17 am

Agh! Amazing! I’m so excited about the iPhone app that I can hardly wait to finish this sentence and navigate away from the page!

On a slightly less fangirl note, since I’m not sure if I’ve ever commented here before, your blog is completely masterful. I love the balance you’ve been able to strike between staples, special occasion meals, and how-to’s. And, of course, the photography is gorgeous.

  • 27. Speedbump Kitchen  |  November 16th, 2008 at 9:25 am

Great app! I’ve always enjoyed your blog, so this was exciting to download your recipes and wonderful photos to my itouch!

  • 28. Emily  |  November 18th, 2008 at 7:32 pm

I got your iPhone app! And recommended it to some friends! We all love it. :D

  • 29. Robyn  |  November 25th, 2008 at 8:31 pm

Congrats on all the news! The iPhone app is fantastic! It makes shopping so much easier. I was in the grocery store the other day and saw some beautiful asparagus. I whipped out the Yum Yum app, found the Asparagus Tart recipe, picked up the additional ingredients and hubby and I had a fantastic dinner.

  • 30. Dave  |  December 5th, 2008 at 12:33 pm

Hi! I found you after downloading the iPhone app and just wanted to say it’s a great app and a fantastic site! While I am still a Vegan conversion in progress, this site and the iPhone app make it a lot more fun, exciting, and easy! Keep up the great work!

  • 31. lausse  |  October 25th, 2009 at 9:56 am

Nonono! What happened – your app is removed from Appstore?

  • 32. Steff  |  February 10th, 2010 at 10:00 am
