  • 14. Heather Wilks  |  February 25th, 2008 at 11:21 am

GREAT JOB! I was so impressed by the way you explained the how you made them! That is my favorite thing about your blog, and you did just as awesome on martha. I am seriously running out to get marzipan.

I think you need to have your OWN show! :)

  • 15. Liz²  |  February 25th, 2008 at 11:31 am

I just saw it! It was so cute! Too bad the cupcake wasn’t vegan, but the cake looked so awesome. :D

  • 16. Lolo  |  February 25th, 2008 at 12:10 pm

I offered to make everything vegan, but they were in charge of the cupcakes and cake, and I was in charge of the decorations. Oh well!

  • 17. Suzanne  |  February 25th, 2008 at 1:35 pm

Well done!!! Martha sure likes to point out how dry things are  I’ve had your Knit-Night bookmarked for a long time, I’m so happy you got to share your talents on television.

I have to thank you as well, I’m not a vegetarian, but I’ve been trying to make the switch (I view eating meat as an addiction) and your blogged has helped me cut it out. Thanks!

  • 18. nicole  |  February 25th, 2008 at 1:46 pm

    you were great!! :D

  • 26. Jessica  |  February 25th, 2008 at 3:00 pm

After watching the ease of “knitting” marzipan in motion, I am even more interested in creating your Knit Night Cupcakes (and eventually will, when the right occasion presents itself). I am NOT a Martha Stewart fan (Am I the only one?) but will withhold my animosity towards her. I only wish you were let the opportunity to talk a little more about veganism (though I am pesco-vegetarian, myself). You were adorable though, and I’m sure this will bring about great exposure!

  • 27. Quickbreadbandit  |  February 25th, 2008 at 3:28 pm

thats so cool!!! you looked like a pro!

  • 28. SusanV  |  February 25th, 2008 at 3:32 pm

  • 35. jd  |  February 25th, 2008 at 5:42 pm

    Hi Lolo!

I just wanted to let you know what a pleasant surprise it was for me to catch your appearance on Martha Stewart when I came home from work for lunch today!

I had my TiVo set to record the show, but seeing your part live gave me just the “pick me up” I needed to get through the rest of a blah Monday!

You did a wonderful job & looked adorable, too :)

Keep up the amazing - & inspiring - vegan cooking!!

  • 36. stidmama  |  February 25th, 2008 at 5:43 pm

My husband promised he had set up the DVR… but didn’t. I managed to find the show on the Canadian channel JUST as your segment began! So it was great to be able to watch again with this clip.

You did a great job, and explained it so well. Congratulations!

  • 37. Tracy  |  February 25th, 2008 at 5:53 pm

Great Job! I’m glad you got the chance to mention your vegan blog.

  • 38. Moi  |  February 25th, 2008 at 6:29 pm

Wow I wonder if you got to be on marthas show solely because if this blog??

  • 39. Romina  |  February 25th, 2008 at 6:31 pm

You were fabulous!! (I would’ve been nervous too). Congratulations!

AWESOME! What a cake! You didn’t seem nervous to me — Gah, I am so impressed, you vegan baking queen!

  • 45. Jackie Vetter  |  February 25th, 2008 at 9:40 pm

You were such a pro! Way to go.

  • 46. Bujiatang  |  February 25th, 2008 at 9:54 pm

I’ve loved your photography. And I dont think Martha’s film crew held a single candle to your work. Holding candles to marzipan would be a bad idea generally though… Anyway, I enjoyed watching your spot on Martha’s show, and I hope it was a fun for you.

  • 47. Namratha  |  February 25th, 2008 at 10:18 pm

Glad you put the clip here, I missed the show unfortunately. I got busy unexpectedly. You look so calm and pro like…good job :)

  • 48. Anna  |  February 25th, 2008 at 10:34 pm

Awwwwh! Thats so cool how you got on Martha! I’m glad you posted it on here coz I live in New Zealand too and I would’ve been annoyed if I didn’t see it. But pro job!

  • 51. vegyogini  |  February 26th, 2008 at 1:28 am

I watched it from my DVR tonight, Lolo, and you were fabulous! What an amazing accomplishment; you should be so proud. :)

  • 52. Chris  |  February 26th, 2008 at 4:29 am

A vegan on Martha Stewart? What’s next, vegans on the Food Network?

You totally rocked, did not seem nervous, and represented vegans well in a mainstream outlet. Nice work.

  • 53. Anna/Village Vegan  |  February 26th, 2008 at 4:55 am

Congratulations! You were great, and the marzipan was so cute…

Thank you Lolo for sharing your NYC/Martha Stewart Show experience with me. You deserve every kudo for your achievements. The Martha Stewart Show staff from the stage to the offices was professional, welcoming and supportive to the last person. I was thrilled to be in the audience, who loved you, and full of joy to see your success firsthand. Your vegan food is all so enticing and amazing. Your family supports every aspect of your work and your artistry. Keep it up. Love from Wisonsin.

  • 56. Evanna Murray  |  February 26th, 2008 at 9:29 am

You were a natural! You were calm and explained everything clearly and with humor. I’m so proud to be related to you.

  • 57. Judy Woods  |  February 26th, 2008 at 9:59 am

When I visited your lovely Washington Island, WI, last summer with your cousin Evanna, I was touched by how proud your mom was of you. Now I understand why. You were wonderful! I even think I could make a marzipan sweater. And you handled Martha like a pro. Great job!

  • 58. erica  |  February 26th, 2008 at 10:06 am

    yay!

  • 59. Sally  |  February 26th, 2008 at 10:13 am

Awesome work! I’ll be the first to say that you did seem slightly nervous, but who wouldn’t be? You were charming and Martha was so impressed with you. What’s going on with the book?

  • 61. Patti  |  February 26th, 2008 at 2:39 pm

You were wonderful! Those knit night cupcakes were what led me to your blog the very first time all those months ago, and I’m glad to see you still being recognized for your talent and creativity. :)

  • 62. Jessica  |  February 26th, 2008 at 3:00 pm

aww! Watching you make those actually made me think I could do them myself. You made it look super easy and way to get the word out about your vegan blog — what a great intro to veganism it is too!

  • 76. liz  |  February 28th, 2008 at 12:23 pm

so how does it feel to show martha how to make something? she is like the queen of craft teaching! also it was really cool that you mentioned being vegan! :)

  • 77. aTxVegn  |  February 28th, 2008 at 2:32 pm

You were wonderful! Thanks for posting the clip so I could watch.

  • 78. Hippie Chick Bakery  |  February 28th, 2008 at 8:27 pm

    Hi Lauren!
A bride came in raving about this blog, so I had to check it out - I didn’t realize it was you :)
Awesome job! Can’t wait to see the cookbook (promise me you won’t open a bakery after that LOL)

  • 79. eileen  |  February 28th, 2008 at 9:50 pm

Oh my god, how terrifying! You did a fantastic job–I think I would have fainted, or something similarly humiliating. Excitement! Hooray!

  • 80. Judy  |  February 29th, 2008 at 4:44 am

I really feel like I could “knit” a sweater and scarf and make a ball of yarn myself for one of my own cakes. How clever you are to have figured it all out and how well you explained it to Martha and her viewers. Kudos!

  • 81. Alanna  |  February 29th, 2008 at 6:59 am

Terrific — and the nerves didn’t show at all! Congratulations!

  • 82. appifanie  |  February 29th, 2008 at 8:55 am

way to go! and i curse when i’m speaking in public, so i thought you were awesome :)

  • 83. B  |  February 29th, 2008 at 10:04 pm

You did great! I’m kind of annoyed that Martha Stewart called some of the things cheating. Who cares! You make cute things.

  • 84. Angie  |  March 1st, 2008 at 11:18 am

Thank you so much for posting the video of your appearance. You did an excellent job. A picture is worth a thousand words. You looked great on the screen — I think foodtv should give you your own show.

  • 85. Flea  |  March 1st, 2008 at 10:44 pm

That’s fantastic! You stood side by side with Martha and lived to tell about it. :)

  • 86. chow vegan  |  March 2nd, 2008 at 10:56 am

Thanks for the clip! I missed the show when it was on. You did great!

  • 87. textual bulldog  |  March 2nd, 2008 at 5:08 pm

You did such a good job! I hope this brings lots more traffic to your blog, which will hopefully show people how easy and fabulous it is to be veg. So glad we have you and all your talentedness on our team!

  • 88. karrie  |  March 3rd, 2008 at 6:49 am

Aww. I think the slight nerves made it charming. And somehow made Martha seem less brusque than she often does.

I’m always so impressed with others’ creativity. I completely lack a crafty gene, so it is fun to see what those who are crafty can come up with.

  • 89. Marian Silvester  |  March 7th, 2008 at 10:32 am

Hello, Just wanted to say well done! You did great. I love your blog. I’m a long-term vegan who loves baking . . . and think I’m pretty good at it. Your website, descriptions, and photos . . . are so impressive, it makes me feel proud just to know you’re out there. I live in Scotland, and I refer everyone I know to your site - for inspiration, or even if they just need cheering up. Thank you.

  • 90. Carlo  |  March 26th, 2008 at 4:21 pm

thanks for the post. i hope to read some more.
    Best regards from Sebbi

  • 91. Katie  |  March 26th, 2008 at 5:50 pm

OMG. You are my vegan idol. Bookmarking your blog. Now.

    Thanks!
    <3

  • 92. Mel  |  March 29th, 2008 at 3:56 am

Congrats on being on the show and doing so well! A little nerves makes you look human and puts you in touch with the audience. I think it was a great piece!

Pity they didn’t mention your blog on air though!

  • 93. Angel  |  April 17th, 2008 at 1:01 am

Congratulations! I am glad that you are able to share your passion for food with all of America! :) However, I am disappointed about Martha’s snideness towards vegan food, her statement about the ease of your method of craft for the marzipan sweaters, and how she told the audience to go on her website in order to find your food blog url.

It’s wonderful and relieving that there are still kind, thoughtful, and talented people like you in a country where mainstream media is cold, calculating, jealous and greedy. I am reminded of snow white and the evil queen. ;-)

  • 94. Jenn S  |  November 12th, 2008 at 11:03 am

I would have never known you were nervous!
