Twitter Book Club

My Shortlist

So I wanted to read a trashy, candy-bar type book. I’ve heard a lot of people are digging the Twilight series, so I thought maybe I’d give it a shot. A good friend of mine mentioned that half the fun of the book is gossiping about it with a friend. Trouble is, all the friends I had that hadn’t read it yet were purposely avoiding it.

So I figured I’d suggest it to Twitter and see what came back. Turns out a few people are interested! Thus the twitter book club was born.

Here’s how it works
-You don’t have to sign up or join anything (unless you’re not already a member of Twitter)
-Read the book!
-When you tweet about the book, add #bookclub to your tweet

That’s it! Then you can use Twitter search to see all the posts tagged with #bookclub, and follow along with the discussion.

I’m thinking that to keep this fun and relaxed there will be no schedule for reading. I certainly don’t want it to feel like homework! If you’ve already read the book, feel free to join in on the conversation! Just add #bookclub to your tweet!

In order to avoid spoilers:
-Tweet the page number or chapter you’re on when you stop reading for the day/week/whatever
-When you tweet about the book, don’t give away any spoilers unless everyone is past that page!
-I’ll occasionally announce the spoiler cut-off page so that people don’t have to keep checking

Sound like fun? I hope so. We can play around with how this will all work once it gets going. And if we like it, we’ll do another book!

Example Tweets:
-Oh man, I love Edward so much! #bookclub 109
-#bookclub 432
-#bookclub ch2
-This book is an insult to women (and vampires) everywhere #bookclub

May I just say that it warms my little heart to see Pip listed as a good friend? What a lovely thing, friends becoming friends!
