Cookie Workshop

Stumble it!
I was hoping to have a full post for you today, but the stupid winter sun set before I could perfect my cookies. I’ve vowed to not photograph after sunset for the sake of photo quality, so I’m bound to the constraints of daylight like some vegan reverse-vampire food blogger. Or something.
There are more recipes for chocolate chip cookies out there than I can count, but I’ve never found one I was happy with. There’s always something slightly off about them. I don’t know if I’ll be able to come up with a decent recipe or not, but I’m sure as hell going to try! The ones pictured here sucked really badly, if you’re wondering.
I’ll have a post for you tomorrow, whether the cookies are ready or not. I have some artichokes I want to stuff.

You’ve got a mighty fine blog here… just wanted to let you know. I’m definitely a fan now!

Reverse vampire, ha ha. Whooooo! Can’t wait! I’ve been dying to find a good cookie recipe. I made some over the weekend that were just “eh”. I want “yum!”.

The dough looks good! Did you at least eat that?
4. Lolo | December 4th, 2007 at 4:39 pm
The dough was bad! I was experimenting with flax eggs, and I put too much in. :\

I’m glad I’m not the only obsessed food blogger lamenting the diminishing daylight. I’ve never eaten so many meals at 3:30 pm in my life!!!

Have you seen the Colossal Cookies recipe from Simply Heavenly: The Monastery Vegetarian Cookbook?
7. marianne | December 4th, 2007 at 5:32 pm
Well, that’s just so wrong on so many levels, seriously, that cookie dough looks really good… but having the baked cookies AND the dough be sucky? just.wrong. :^)

i’ve had a lot of luck with a recipe from a pilsbury cookbook that i just use egg replacer in. vegans and nonvegans loved them.
i’ve had some crappy veg chocchip cookies though… like the kind you go “why did someone even allow someone else to try this??”

Those dough balls are enough to satisfy!

I got lucky with my first batch of vegan chocolate chip cookies- I followed the recipe for Rachel’s Chocolate Chip Cookies from Sarah Kramer’s La Dolce Vegan! cookbook- they are so good!
Thanks for the beautiful blog…
xoxo!

I definitely know what you mean about the sunlight photos thing. I find myself going outside at 7 AM just to get a good picture of something before I take it to my students or coworkers to devour, just so I can blog the things, after baking late the night before.
Sometimes I post the crappier photos, but they don’t make me happy.

You and me, both.

yeah, the sunlight (or lack thereof) IS an issue - c’est la vie, I guess. can’t wait to see the cookies!! :0)

I love this picture! Part of the fun of making cookies is how good the dough looks. I’ve definitely been known to sneak some taste tests in from time to time.

Hey - where did you get that awesome metal cookie scoop? I had a plastic one, but it broke about a week ago and I’ve been looking everywhere for another one. I want to get a metal one this time so it doesn’t break again, but I haven’t had any luck even finding plastic ones again.
17. Lolo | December 7th, 2007 at 1:48 pm
SaraJane - I got it at a local kitchen store. It holds 2 tablespoons and it’s perfect for cookie dough and cupcake batter!

too bad about the cookies, but i look forward to your next cookie post. you’re so good at explaining things clearly and methodically, and i have so many cookie questions! such as, once you scoop out your perfect little dough balls with your metal scooper, how much do you flatten the cookies? or, when should you use parchment paper vs. a silicone mat vs. a plain ungreased cookie sheet? basically, i guess i’m saying that i’d love to see s setp-by-step cookie tutorial from you!

my favorite restaurant does the best vegan chocolate chip cookies ever in the history of the world… even lots of non-vegan’s love them and say they’re way better then non-vegan ones… so i haven’t even tried experimenting with recipes cause i know they won’t ever be as good… i actually have a craving for them now…

I just posted a recipe for vegan chocolate chip cookies everyone loves and are really easy to boot - but you have to be ok with banana as an egg replacer.

And no pictures because it was after the sun goes down… at 4:30. Winter : (

I use the nestle tollhouse recipe and sub one flax egg per egg called for. I also use an oat/barley flour mix because my son is wheat allergic. “Normal” people didn’t know the cookies weren’t normal. They don’t taste much like tollhouse, but they are delicious.
